I used 2" long 3/8" stainless steel bolts through the laminations and reinforcements blocks.  I recessed the head of the bolt to be level with the surface.  The blocks underneath are really required to provided a solid mounting surface.

The knobs have a threaded brass insert.  These knobs worked okay, but later I found some others that worked better and provided more leverage for turning.
