I glued the slices together to form the wedge for the base, but since the slices weren't very uniform, the resulting wedge had steps between pieces.  I soon found that trying to shape it to fit the bottom of the cradle was going to be a pain, so I scrapped the wedge idea.

I included the idea here because I think it could work well if the wedge were cut from a single piece of wood using a bandsaw.
