The idea I hit upon was to build a second lamination to form the base of the cradle.  I simply used the bottom section of my initial cradle form to build the L-shaped base piece.  Using my belt sander clamped to the workbench, it wasn't too difficult to shape the ends of the base to fit the bottom of the cradle.
