Instead of gluing veneer laminations directly to the cockpit coaming, I glued a 5/8" thick stack of Ash laminations around a form.  I made the form by tracing the cockpit cutout opening on a piece of OSB and attached some 2x4 slices right up to the line.  I wrapped the stack of laminations in wax paper clamped from the center out.  To avoid flat spots, only clamp at the corners of the 2x4s where the lamination touches.
