I trimmed off the strips at the surface of the inner stem and planed the surface perpendicular to the centerline.  In hindsight, I should have made the inner stem much deeper so the bevel would have brought it to a sharper point.  This would have made the surface for the outer stem narrower.  As it was, the outer stem had to be fairly wide, which looks a little overpowering on this relatively small boat.   It doesn't look bad, but a smaller outer stem would have been better.
