License

The purchase of this kayak design is for a single-use license. The license grants the user the right to build the design one time. In addition, it requires that no copies of the design file are resold, sublicensed, or distributed and that no derivative works be made based on the original design. The license fee is $60 US per build.

What is provided

You can download the design file itself. Use the KayakFoundry software to view the design and to print the cross-sectional and stem forms. Once loaded in KayakFoundry, the design can be minimally adjusted to customize the design to the paddler. These adjustments include the cockpit shape and size, the paddler weight, and the Design Waterline (DWL) height. Adjusting the DWL allows you to fine-tune the expected displacement, which automatically places the cockpit in the optimal longitudinal position for the paddler.

Since the Whiptail design does not come with a set of instructions on the building process, that information must come from other sources. There are a number of resources that I recommend to any builder, regardless of experience. These will all provide overlapping information to help make the project go smoothly. Ideally, this is not your first strip kayak project, but even if it is, the following will be helpful:

Payment via a PayPal secure online transaction allows credit card payments without requiring a PayPal account. Once the payment process is completed, you will be immediately directed to a download page for the design file. In addition, you will receive an email message containing the same download link so that you may download the file at a later time. The download link will be valid for 2 weeks.
