)...can i order one from you? or do i need to sit on some foam and send you the imprint?

seriously tho...i am getting to the point where i need to think about the seat for my boat, but i dont think i can make all those pieces by hand. i was going to try glueing a few pieces of cedar together, and then grinding a butt shape into them.

Never had a seat named after me!

Sanded and glassed - that seat is worthy of the rest of the yak! A good idea as well using the small pieces to get away from the problem of the complex curves.

You must have used a mould to get the shape - manage to get a tractor seat? Also how do you plan on supporting it in the kayak?

Not a bad idea Glen.

Silvério, to get a very light fibreglass set-up put some pressure on it so it squeezes out any excess epoxy. I did this with a rudder blade a few months ago using foam and clamps. Works similar to vacuum bagging.

Because the seat is butt shaped, sitting on it should work! Don't forget the pics

I recently joint a Spanish forum (very interesting forum I must say) and I found I guy who is building a guillemot.
He is Kany.
The funny thing is that he did a seat more or less like mine...WHAT A COINCIDENCE.

I'm sure that many spanish will now visit this forum in silence because most do not speak nor write english. And they have a great forum with 1721 members. That is a respectful number.

I tried to create some humour along this post so things are not so boring with everyones help. I thought I was a teaser...just cann't beat you guys, your just one of a kind.

I take it Kany must have used 2 part foam!

It's great to see people try different methods and ideas. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't but at least its progress. Nothing worse then a builder saying "But the book said to do it this way". If everybody did it by the book then things will stagnate and we wouldn't see developments like Exquisit or Kany's seat etc.

I see a lot of space between the wood? Is it glued to the fiber glass form? If you are going to do a full seat in wood and then glass it could I just do a plaster mold and line it with the wood glueing (wood only) as I go then sand and finish?

These last pictures they are not mine. I took it from a Spanish forum. Kany the builder sat on plaster as you can see, making it the negative. Looks like he cleaned it up or sanded and then made a positve in fiberglass.
At the end he stuck the square cedar pattern. I didn't asked if he filled the gaps but I would presume so.
My seat is on the previous page.
It's all wood made of cedar with a "tetris" pattern. Needs to be fiberglasse.
As a friend, let me tell you this: If your going to build your first kayak and if it's not exquisite, buy one of those cheap and very confortable seats. The time making the mold, the material and the pain in the "butt" is not worth it.

Only for something or someone special.

Ok boys.
The situation point is this.
I haven't post anything of the OI for about 2 weeks because the development does not justify.
The hull was quite easy and staightforward.
The deck on the other hand is slow for the following reasons:
The temperature has gone down from 44ºC to 25ºC and I'm using a different glue that does not dry as fast. I'm not using stamples nor nail to hold the strips in position. The strips are not bead & cove. In order to glue another strip I have to wait untill it dries because the bending is very tight.
I could have used staples but since the hull is clean I decided to keep the deck the same way.
I could send a foto showing the bending...
Today rained for the first time. I would think that Islandpaddler is awaking from hibernation by now

If it rains here it should be sunny in NZ.
